<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sometimes restoration is more like resurrection. This little Honda had been left for dead before this project began. With a little love - and of course a few modifications - it's back on the road again and performing better than ever.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tbDcoXM2qyw/UKrNAWXTZ2I/AAAAAAAAAXs/fUS7uSoAB9o/s1600/01+rockerbox+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tbDcoXM2qyw/UKrNAWXTZ2I/AAAAAAAAAXs/fUS7uSoAB9o/s320/01+rockerbox+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is the progress so far.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M2stxlhCzxQ/UKrOQb5vy9I/AAAAAAAAAX8/aWKdSyAWp6o/s1600/04+before+1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-M2stxlhCzxQ/UKrOQb5vy9I/AAAAAAAAAX8/aWKdSyAWp6o/s320/04+before+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">...and this is where it started. Quite the difference. Actually having an engine is a big upgrade, for example. The engine was gone through with new seals and reinstalled. A modern electronic ignition makes a gigantic difference in reliability. The carbs were completely rebuilt and rejetted to account for the open-element pod filters.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a-G59vDw58M/UKrNN9__e-I/AAAAAAAAAX0/FnjAJS0A5t8/s1600/02+rockerbox+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a-G59vDw58M/UKrNN9__e-I/AAAAAAAAAX0/FnjAJS0A5t8/s320/02+rockerbox+2.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Practically every part was removed for painting or polishing (or was just removed, period). The tank got some bodywork and a new coat of metal flake paint. The "Honda" badges were shaved at the same time. Most of the wiring was redone. The 60's handlebars were ditched for a lower straight version. The damaged headlight and brackets were straightened and repainted. The dryrotted original tires were replaced with modern rubber. The control cables were also replaced for modern upgrades.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7oEqVH-AHuM/UKrRjMmVcGI/AAAAAAAAAYM/Z3hqyGdqsOc/s1600/03+rockerbox+3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7oEqVH-AHuM/UKrRjMmVcGI/AAAAAAAAAYM/Z3hqyGdqsOc/s320/03+rockerbox+3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Out back, the decayed stock seat was restyled and reupholstered becoming a custom solo seat. The stock tail lights were remounted on custom brackets after ditching the rear fender. The license plate found a new home on an axle-mounted bracket. The useless rear footpegs were removed. The damaged foot controls were straightened and painted.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kAF7Pjz78r8/UKrUO8HpGNI/AAAAAAAAAYc/dUf5eiWJDp0/s1600/06+seat+1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kAF7Pjz78r8/UKrUO8HpGNI/AAAAAAAAAYc/dUf5eiWJDp0/s320/06+seat+1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> This in-process pic shows the padding for the solo seat being built on the stock seat pan before the custom upholstery was added.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For 2013, BMW has introduced a new M5. This one received the full blackout treatment...with a twist. Instead of simply being painted, the chrome details on this new M5 were converted to carbon-fiber instead.</span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bijz72MPPPw/UKNE3mggRGI/AAAAAAAAAWk/3oSrnfQjyHo/s1600/01+rear+angle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bijz72MPPPw/UKNE3mggRGI/AAAAAAAAAWk/3oSrnfQjyHo/s320/01+rear+angle.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is what Darth Vader's M5 would look like. All of the lenses were tinted, along with the windows. The stock M alloy wheels were powdercoated matte black. The chrome door handle inserts and fender vents were done in black carbon fiber. Very sinister looking.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nnQ0MviLlWc/UKNFoxI9BWI/AAAAAAAAAWs/imsoD3Kt8Ms/s1600/02+front+angle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nnQ0MviLlWc/UKNFoxI9BWI/AAAAAAAAAWs/imsoD3Kt8Ms/s320/02+front+angle.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ImYDBvuGlGo/UKNF2R4I4RI/AAAAAAAAAW0/ycw1hHxuGeM/s1600/03+front.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ImYDBvuGlGo/UKNF2R4I4RI/AAAAAAAAAW0/ycw1hHxuGeM/s320/03+front.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The stock grilles were swapped for black units.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YnhStT7eygg/UKNGE2jhmLI/AAAAAAAAAW8/WcoBtL_r0qI/s1600/04+headlight.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YnhStT7eygg/UKNGE2jhmLI/AAAAAAAAAW8/WcoBtL_r0qI/s320/04+headlight.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The headlights were lightly tinted and a darker "eyebrow" was added to the top. The side marker light is still visible when the lights are on. Very mean looking.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xHtrTmXdRe8/UKNGiOz_-qI/AAAAAAAAAXE/UI_hYq36jK4/s1600/05+handle.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xHtrTmXdRe8/UKNGiOz_-qI/AAAAAAAAAXE/UI_hYq36jK4/s320/05+handle.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This picture does not do justice to how great this looks in person. The stock handles had a chrome insert that was redone in black carbon fiber.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wSGENpZI1jA/UKNG7xuJ39I/AAAAAAAAAXM/T6c7stiedtY/s1600/06+vent+inside.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wSGENpZI1jA/UKNG7xuJ39I/AAAAAAAAAXM/T6c7stiedtY/s320/06+vent+inside.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This picture does a better job of showing how fantastic the black carbon fiber looks in person. The ring around the fender vents is chrome from the factory. Also notice that the LED indicator was tinted to make it blend in. The tint does not effect the visibility of the light when it is working.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--PNJFtxg4U0/UKNHmXYt-CI/AAAAAAAAAXc/ab1wSBWgEuI/s1600/08+rear.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--PNJFtxg4U0/UKNHmXYt-CI/AAAAAAAAAXc/ab1wSBWgEuI/s320/08+rear.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The rear view shows the tinted tail lights and bumper reflectors. Again, the tinting does not prevent the lights from showing through when they're working.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span></div>

In this case, the entire system is designed to use empty spaces and the factory radio to make enough great sound to keep up with the 6.2L 411hp truck it lives in.<br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h67-F_WX2GE/TaZveCCOtOI/AAAAAAAAAVI/0Pdm6ECLdUg/s1600/02%2Bstock%2Bheadunit.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h67-F_WX2GE/TaZveCCOtOI/AAAAAAAAAVI/0Pdm6ECLdUg/s320/02%2Bstock%2Bheadunit.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595282148787401954" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family: arial;">The stock radio was retained in order to keep it's functions and the stock cosmetics. If you like it, or if you can't change it for some reason, there's no reason not to use the factory radio anymore.</span><br /><span style="font-family: arial;"></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qeqrxoNifXM/TaZvXKoSqsI/AAAAAAAAAVA/ujLBQAitH74/s1600/03%2Bprocessor.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qeqrxoNifXM/TaZvXKoSqsI/AAAAAAAAAVA/ujLBQAitH74/s320/03%2Bprocessor.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595282030835444418" border="0" /></a><span style="font-family: arial;">This is the magic piece that allows it to happen. The platters were painted white, then the pitch-calibration indicators had to be polished out before clearcoating. The only exception was that the owner wanted a great audio system in it. The restriction was that none of it could be seen, so that the illusion of leaving the factory yesterday wouldn't be ruined. Definitely a challenge, but it came out sounding good enough to put a modern "factory premium" system to shame.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/THbAb5vPXzI/AAAAAAAAAQw/FGp7cgRCUjI/s1600/02+the+engine+room.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/THbAb5vPXzI/AAAAAAAAAQw/FGp7cgRCUjI/s320/02+the+engine+room.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509802779722342194" border="0" /></a>The engine room. That Optima battery was eventually covered with a replica old-style battery case, and all the amp wiring was covered in a matching braided loom to keep the theme.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/THbABtneqTI/AAAAAAAAAQo/h04VtSI48QU/s1600/03+interior.JPG"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/THbABtneqTI/AAAAAAAAAQo/h04VtSI48QU/s320/03+interior.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5509802329791965490" border="0" /></a>This is what the factory dashboard looked like. No matter how good your exhaust sounds, eventually you're going to want to listen to something else...something good.<br /><br />This is a great example of what can be done in a classic car without destroying it's flavor. It's a sound system that blends in aesthetically, but stands out sonically.<br /><br />The irregularly shaped and profiled dash area was handled by machining a polished black polycarbonate panel for the modern Alpine radio. A connector for an iPod is tucked into the glovebox and is controlled through the radio's faceplate buttons.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/TD6vDzFdagI/AAAAAAAAAOY/TOfyTYQJBXw/s1600/02+finished+dash+2.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/TD6vDzFdagI/AAAAAAAAAOY/TOfyTYQJBXw/s320/02+finished+dash+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494021075226159618" border="0" /></a><br />Panels were made to house Alpine's Pro components in the plastic kickpanels. None of the metal behind the plastic had to be modified in any way. With a casual glance you wouldn't even notice that they weren't factory equipment.<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/TD6vDXHIWFI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/gg1RbAx1nG0/s1600/03+passenger%27s+side+kickpanel.jpg"><img style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/TD6vDXHIWFI/AAAAAAAAAOQ/gg1RbAx1nG0/s320/03+passenger%27s+side+kickpanel.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494021067716974674" border="0" /></a>The biggest challenge on the driver's side was retaining 100% functionality of the emergency brake. Just like everything else, if you have the same thing as everyone else - it's boring. This kind of thing could be done to almost anything: Computers, Video Game consoles, toasters, whatever.<br /><br />Take for example these customized and upgraded Technics 1200 decks done in a red Alcantara suede (the stuff they use in Lamborghinis). What you can't see in the pictures are the electronic upgrades: the grounds both inside and outside were upgraded from the stock 22gauge wire to 12gauge, which improves both output and headroom if used conventionally. It also helps digital systems like Serato track the control records more precisely. As an added plus, it also makes turntables more durable and reliable. The tonearms on these were replaced, and the internal settings were syncronized for speed and braking.<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/S0rUIqGpRGI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/OvVu2x-TRFE/s1600-h/red+12s+b.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/S0rUIqGpRGI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/OvVu2x-TRFE/s320/red+12s+b.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425381946327385186" border="0" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">If you'd like to check these out in person, check out www.dje-rich.com to find out where they're going to be. As an example of something wilder, here's a set that was done in zebra fur (yes, fur). I still don't know if they're black with white stripes, or white with black stripes. Make it better. The stock BMW M3 comes stock with a lot of really nice parts. The problem is that they're stock. The same parts and the same style that everyone else has.<br /><br />In this case, an injection of style and attitude comes from simply cleaning up the factory style by blacking out all of the factory supplied parts. It's dramatic, but you don't really notice what's been changed unless you compare the before and after photos.<br /><br />After.<br /></div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SxJDDWiAdXI/AAAAAAAAAHE/ojsMgjFWgw0/s1600/after+front+low.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SxJDDWiAdXI/AAAAAAAAAHE/ojsMgjFWgw0/s320/after+front+low.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409459827292271986" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SxJDEI4mLXI/AAAAAAAAAHU/klRUnd9vXPg/s1600/after+side.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SxJDEI4mLXI/AAAAAAAAAHU/klRUnd9vXPg/s320/after+side.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5409459840808791410" border="0" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">In the front, the headlights and front reflectors were tinted and the chrome grilles were painted matte black. Anyone that's ever had an ipod will tell you it's the greatest invention ever...and if it's an i<span style="font-style: italic;">phone</span> you'd fight someone that tried to take it from you.<br /><br />If your car doesn't have a way to play it, it's super-frustrating. Fortunately, if you're clever enough there are ways to modify most factory car radios to do what you want them to do.<br /><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SvikTXyJ-AI/AAAAAAAAAG8/xvk0JGIcDsw/s1600-h/radio.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SvikTXyJ-AI/AAAAAAAAAG8/xvk0JGIcDsw/s320/radio.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402248405739763714" border="0" /></a>In this case, parts from 3 different companies were used to make it happen. First, you have to convince the factory radio that it's connected to an Alpine CD changer. Then, you have to convince the Alpine CD changer port to be RCA connectors instead. Finally, you add a cable that converts from RCA to an iPod dock connector to get line-out from the iPhone. That way, you get the best possible sound and it even doubles as a charger. Problem solved.<br /><br />Neat.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SvikTFj0eWI/AAAAAAAAAG0/NZXwPNDgdIg/s1600-h/exterior.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/SvikTFj0eWI/AAAAAAAAAG0/NZXwPNDgdIg/s320/exterior.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5402248400847796578" border="0" /></a><br />As seen on MTV's "Cribs". The wiring in this '69 Chevy truck was made up of 40 years of bad decisions. The best way to fix that is to remove every scrap of wire from the vehicle and replace it with new. That means engineering on the fly to make everything work together.<br /><br />The new gear included:<br /><br />* Custom Autometer gauges<br />* New Vintage Air a/c<br />* Newer engine<br />* New ididit steering column<br />* Late model bed/taillights<br />* radio/speaker relocation to the headliner<br /><br /><div style="text-align: center;">The original mess</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_z73c-2_f4pY/St4uqss1NGI/AAAAAAAAAEM/Hdk47RJvIk0/s1600-h/02+the+original+mess1.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Nothing fancy, but enough to get some info out there and a way to contact me. I'll post projects and news on here occasionally, along with the odd random thought.<br /><br />Hit me up if there's something you need.<br />chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01845706038499841082noreply@blogger.com0
